About Us

"We travel not to escape life, but for life not to escape us" - Anonymous

We are restless nomads, originally from Michigan and Indiana.  We put down roots for 12+ years in the pacific northwest near Portland, Oregon but have been on the road since 2009.

We spent a few years exploring Australia and New Zealand between 2008 and 2011, before returning to the USA to prepare for our Pan-American adventures in El Tigre (pictured below). We returned from a 4-year trip from the USA through South America in 2015 (2011 - 2015). We are now bouncing between the USA, Canada, and Baja until something else strikes our fancy.

We worked as software and mechanical engineers and saved enough money to retire early. We don't own a house or much other than El Tigre and lots of adventure toys. Our travels generally take us to places where we can maximize our time outdoors. We like to pair our outdoor time  with active/adrenaline pursuits (hence, the toys). A chance wildlife sighting or a beautiful view from atop a mountain can make us giddy. Man will never create anything as beautiful as nature can.

In between our active pursuits, we try hard to simply enjoy the journey and learn from our surroundings. Heather is finally getting that history and geography lesson that she never paid attention to in school.

Check our "Archives" link above for country-specific posts.

El Tigre will be our home for the foreseeable future

Hi guys, this is Josh, we met yesterday in Leadville. I have the awd astro provan tiger. Im looking over your blog, and am really impressed with the work you have done to the vehicle. Its nice for me to think about my new camper as a long term project, and I love the interior remodel you did.

I live in Boulder, so if you do decide to come down the mountain you can always park out front and plug in here, as I would love to pick your brains about how these little campers work.

Happy travels, and good luck with the cold weather.

Hi guys,
I am researching a trip to Peru and stumbled upon your blog. Fantastic stuff !Your lifestyle is my dream. Regarding your time in the cordillera blanca , I've read a number of articles indicating that it is a bad idea to rent a vehicle and drive yourself in this area , the Sacred valley and most of Peru for that matter. Obviously you weren't intimidated , but I would be interested to hear your opinions on the matter in retrospect. I typically can only get away for 2 week intervals if that makes any difference.

Hi Daniel, I hope we can inspire you to explore Peru with your own vehicle. It's not a "bad idea" (as the articles you've read are suggesting). Please email and we will pass along some more thoughts and advice - heatherandscottsadventures@gmail.com
